The Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Force has arrested 11 people accused of engaging in online fraud, where they have been using the names of various companies to persuade citizens to give money with various promises.
According to a statement released by the Police Force today, October 5, 2026, the suspects are alleged to have engaged in fraud through WhatsApp and Instagram networks, using the names C2203 VDC Dawn, VBCL Business Company Ltd, Fine Modern Homes and Fine Group of Companies.
Police said the suspects were claiming that the companies were run by Prof. Vincent Mwakibote, Rebecca Ndawani and Andrew Komba, while issuing advertisements with special links directing citizens to various pages.
After the victims clicked on the links, they were allegedly asked to make payments through the accounts provided to them, including paying money to buy shares in markets such as the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE), the London Stock Exchange and the US markets, as well as promises of house construction, which the Police have described as fake contracts.
The Police Force has said that investigations are ongoing against the suspects, while urging citizens to be careful of advertisements that encourage them to make financial transactions through networks without verifying the legitimacy of the relevant business.
The police have also warned citizens not to click on links or make payments to untrustworthy people and companies, as incidents of online fraud continue to increase.
The statement was issued by the Acting Commander of the Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone. If you wish, I can also create a strong online headline for this story without distorting the information
